Did I go all day without hearing my own voice? Was the quietness inside matched by the beating rhythm of time, demanding that I pay attention or die of the inevitable? Instead, I gently leaned my head to the side and wondered, what was she thinking? Was the deep silence raging against her in the same way and what if, I had escaped, not from others, but from the cage I built for myself to keep me safe from them?
