I learned the hard way to not marry for ego. The people I grew up with, they gave me flattery and status and shallow showmanship and tempted me with vanity and power, which I indulged in. I built a family based off of selfishness and greed for the unearned. And I decided to take the ladder, unlike Adam, leaving that marriage behind.
